Nokia to Pack 41-mp Camera Into Windows Phone, Report Says

Nokia could be planning to bring its true 41-megapixel Pure View camera to a Windows Phone handset this year, according to a new report.
The company is working on a device, codenamed EOS, that will come with its full Pure View camera, The Verge is reporting today, citing people who have knowledge of Nokia's plans. The device will be the first Windows Phone from Nokia that comes with the company's genuine Pure View camera.
Although Nokia throws the "Pure View" name around rather casually, the true, high-end camera has really just been available in its Symbian-based Nokia 808 Pure view Handset. The camera has 41 megapixels and a larger lens that captures more light. In a review of the Nokia 808 Pure View last year, CNET editor Jessica Dolcourt said that the camera is "excellent" and "envelope-pushing," adding that it "will satisfy photo enthusiasts."
Aside from the camera, the EOS will be built with aluminum, according to The Verge's sources. Nokia's current line of Lumia phones are built with polycarbonate. The Verge's sources say that the aluminum designs will also make its way to other phone launches the company is planning this year, including an update to the Lumia 920.
The Nokia EOS (which will likely be renamed at launch) will go on sale sometime later this year on AT&T's network, according to The Verge.
In an e-mailed statement to CNET, a Nokia spokesperson said that the company does not comment on "media speculation."

Flexible Phone Countdown Starts...With Bendable batteries

SEOUL: Scientists have developed world's first bendable lithium-ion batteries, paving way for flexible mobile devices.

Researchers led by professor Lee Sang-young of the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea developed imprintable, fluid-like polymer electrolytes that are used for lithium-ion batteries.

 
Conventional batteries use liquefied electrolytes and are put into square-shaped cases, which makes them inflexible with risks of explosion. Because of these disadvantages, there have been efforts to develop high-molecule electrolytes.

The use of fluid-like electrolytes not only makes the battery bendable but also more stable,

Also, there is no need to manufacture the square-shaped battery cases when using the fluid-electrolytes.

Just like spreading jam on bread, spreading the fluid-like electrolytes on electrodes and exposing them to ultraviolet rays for 30 seconds is how the new rechargeable battery is created, the report said.

Another advantage of the imprintable electrolytes is greater efficiency. If electrolytes are imprintable, they can have various patterns printed on them, helping chemical reactions that raise the output of the batteries.

"Conventional lithium-ion batteries that use liquefied electrolytes had safety problems as the film that separates the electrolytes may melt under heat, in which case the positive and negative elements may come in contact, causing an explosion," said an official at the South Korean Education, Science and Technologyministry.

"Because the new battery uses flexible but solid materials, and not liquids, it can be expected to show a much higher level of stability than conventional rechargeable batteries," the official said.wow This sounds really Great.

Facebook to let iPhone users make free calls

WASHINGTON: Facebook has rolled out a free calling feature in its Messenger app for the iPhone.

The feature, which was released in Canada a few weeks ago, will let Iphone users make free calls to other iPhone users who are using the Messenger app. One cannot use the feature to make calls on landline or cellphone numbers.

According to ABC News, in the app, select a friend, then the "i" icon in the upper right hand corner, and you will then see a "Free Call" option.

Facebook confirmed to ABC News that users will not have to update the app for this feature, as it will automatically appear for those who already have the app.

As with Skype or other mobile VoIp (Voice over Internet Protocol) services, you can make the calls over Wi-Fi or a 3G, 4G or LTE connection.

This is just one of many mobile announcements Facebook has made in the past few months.

According to the report, it upgraded both its iPhone and Andriod apps to make them faster and it released a new Poke app, which destroys messages 10 seconds or less after you look at them.

Facebook didn't make a big announcement about the voice calling service, but it's a very big move for the social networking company, the report added.

However, analysts warn that without increased activity the usefulness of the new search feature could be limited.
Facebook announced Graph Search at an event .He says the search tool is designed to link up the vast store of information in Facebook's database, making it possible for members to search for friends based on their interests or even for friends of friends.
Demonstrating the feature last night, Mark Zuckerberg gave the example of a recent gathering at his home to which he invited friends based on the search "who are my friends in Palo Alto who like Game of Thrones", the popular fantasy drama.
"Facebook's worst nightmare is a static social graph; if users aren't adding very many new friends or connections, then their personal network becomes less and less active over time," says Forrester's Nate Elliott. "Terrifyingly for Facebook, that threat is very real: We haven't seen significant growth in the average number of friends per user recently."
Elliott adds: "Graph search seems designed to encourage users to add more friends more quickly. If it means users' personal networks change more frequently, and become more active, then that keeps them coming back to the site - which is vital to Facebook's success."
