Offa, Erinle war goes on with lot of casualties..here is a clip shot of a victim killed during the battle.

Although authorities of the Kwara Polytechnic, Offa shut down the school on Tuesday when pandemonium started, this to ensure that students are safe, many students stayed behind on the campus.

A student confirmed that students numbering about 50 have taken refuge at the Palace of the traditional ruler, the Oloffa of Offa for fear of more attacks.

“I can tell you that there is no curfew. The lives of students are at stake, we had to run out of our hostels”, another student’s message to News Bytes reads. He further confirmed that students “believe they are at least safe in the palace of Olofa of Offa located opposite the central mosque in Offa” and have decided to sleep there Wednesday night.

A source who spoke with News Bytes blamed the police in not intervening in the communal clash before the mayhem peaked, a situation which has reportedly resulted in the burning of about 20 houses, 10 cars and property worth millions of naira. He noted that the police watched the destructions of lives and property with little intervention.

The State government had earlier issued a statement signed by the Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold informing of the “24 hour curfew imposed on Offa and Erin-Ile towns in Offa and Oyun Local Government Councils with immediate effect”.

The two troubled communities have been at daggers drawn over land for the past three decades but the recent violence reportedly stemmed from an argument between two motorists Tuesday, each from the warring communities, when their vehicles had a collision.
