Protest by the Students
of Kwara state Polytechnic in Ilorin took another dimension on Tuesday with
cars vandalized as protesters and anti-riot Policemen exchanged stones and
bottles with tear-gas.

along Muritala Muhammed way, Taiwo, General Post Office, Sango Area, including
Commercial Banks were closed down as at the time of filling this story.
There
was also information in some quarters that the victim has given up the ghost at
the hospital which escalated the crisis. But in swift reaction, Commissioner of
Police, Agboola Oshodi Glover in a text message to our correspondent said the
information was not true.
He
said “No, That is false information. Do not believe it”.
Meanwhile,
Kwara State Government has appealed to protesting students of Kwara State
Polytechnic to remain calm and avoid any action capable of disrupting peace and
order in the State.
In
a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday, Secretary to the State Government,
Alh. Sola Isiaka Gold, described as unfortunate the reported injury of a
student by men of the Nigeria Police and called on the students to maintain
peace and not allow miscreants to hijack their peaceful protests.
Alhaji
Gold assured the students that the state police has commenced disciplinary
proceedings against the police officer at the center of the incident and will
take action to forestall a re-occurrence of the sad incident.
According
to Alhaji Gold, while government recognizes the students’ right to peaceful
protest, the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone
apprehended for breaking the law under any guise. Furthermore, he urged parents not to allow their wards to be used for any acts of criminality.
